Barack Obama goes to Europe and… Who Cares?

Europe has seen Barack Obama, and they loved him. He made some good speeches in front of adoring crowds of hundreds of thousands. If Nothing else, Obama’s campaign is quite a bit richer. If Europe could vote, Obama would be the next president.

But who cares? Not America, Thank the Lord. Europe might hold the past, but not the future. And we know it. When Europe pressed us to sign the Kyoto Protocol, we refused. They tried to keep us from striking back at terrorists, we did anyway. Israel is despised by them, we [Israel and the U.S.] stand as powerful allies. I don’t think that a trip to Europe is a good idea for a presidential candidate.

And while Obama is finally viewing both Middle East war zones, he went to Europe first. As if they are higher priority! Instead of tackling the issues, Obama goes to Europe! Obama has finally moved into a light where I can truly see him as alien to the the U.S. in ideas and beliefs. He has given speeches to, and collecting the dollars of, a foriegn nation to help his campaign, and I can’t help but veiw him as a man who already believes that he has won the election. And that isn’t a good thing for any candidate.

  1. He who lets the world, or his own portion of it, choose his plan of life for him, has no need of any other faculty than the ape-like one of imitation.JohnStuartMillJohn Stuart Mill

  2. Something to note is that most Europeans do not hold to the beliefs of their governments. Most French are not socialist America-haters. The point is that what you read or see doesn’t necessarily represent reality. The staged events for Barack to speak at were actually preceded by music concerts. He had a ready crowd – but not one that was necessarily there to see him. This whole trip was just an attempt to make him look “presidential” and to somehow equate foreign travel with foreign diplomacy experience.

    Great Blog. Keep it up.
